Whats New:

Professor Crispian Scully awarded Doctorate in Finland

On June 4th Professor Scully received a Doctorate from the University of Helsinki, Finland for international leadership in Oral Medicine and Pathology, and Special Care Dentistry; scientific contributions - especially from discovery of viral nucleic acids in oral cancer (Lancet 1983; ii: 766-768) which, with further studies from his and several other groups, finally established a viral aetiology for a range of oral neoplasms and implicated sexual transmission; clinical identification of several new orofacial entities; and contribution to education - not least via around 40 books and nearly 900 MEDLINE papers.
The honour, the first to a UK dentist, complements international awards from several specialist societies; Gold Medals from 3 universities; Fellowships from 3 Universities and Colleges; and Doctorates from 3 other Universities.
